I took part in a week long mini event held by illustrator and authors Clive McFarland and Barry Timms in Glasgow Zine Library. Through the week I learnt about what makes an effective an children's story book and various illustrative styles. The main goal was to make a LGBTQ+ inclusive story to help kids understand the wide and diverse world.
My story is based around the selkie folklore myth (this project was done while also helping with Sacred Skins selkie project) and making it more safer to kids as it is a dark story. The story covers a little girl going to the beach where she meets another little girl. The two play all day together, at the end of it the girl from the beach revels to be a selkie and asks if the other girl still likes her, even like this. Of course she does and the two remain close friends.
