I picked Lord of the Rings to work with as I believe it has made a huge impact on the fantasy genre, especially that in role playing games like Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder and more. The final response had three acts, each representing the topic it covered along with printing and designing through the age.
Act 1: Traditional layout from first publication of Lord of the Rings. Minimal and clean. Covering Tolkien and his creation.
Act 2: Inspired by current design layouts being free flowing, overprint used for images. Covers the birth of role playing games, mainly Dungeons & Dragons.
Act 3: Based around the DIY and ‘homebrewing’ of media, mainly inspired by punks and their fanzines. Six other typefaces were introduced. This covered Tolkien and his influence on Dungeons & Dragons.
